User namespace | User talk | Help namespace | Project namespace

The image namespace contains images and the pages describing them. These include the copyright tags. Each image must have a copyright tag because OpenTutorial needs to track the permissions for storing images here.

My image is missing a copyright tag, or has {{no license}}.
What you need to do is go to the image page (just click the image wherever you inserted it), edit the page, and add a correct tag. For example, if the image is a work of the US government, add:

{{Pd-usgov}}

{{Gfdl-self}} Template:Gfdl-self
{{Gfdl-1.1-plus}} Template:Gfdl 1.1

Some images use the same GNU Free Documentation License as Wikibooks. These tags are available, they all add image to Category:Gfdl images:

For an image that is GFDL version 1.2 only, there is a {{Gfdl-1.2}} tag available. This tag does not add the image to any category. Currently, few or no images use this tag. Note that {{Gfdl-1.2}} is incompatible with most GFDL licenses because it does not allow use under future versions of the GFDL.

Generally we don't reccomend use of GFDL for images because using them requires showing whole text of the license. As open-content project we want all images to be freely available and we reccomend Creative Commons licenses for images instead (or dual-licensing your work).
